Korean Body Scrub & Exfoliation
Korean body exfoliation is its own category of skincare. Long before American brands discovered body serums, Korean bathhouses were built around the ritual of sesshin and the kisei mitt: a coarse Italy towel that sloughs away weeks of dull, dead skin in a single scrub. At Mirai Skin we carry both the traditional tools and the modern Korean body scrubs and peel shots that bring that bathhouse feeling home.
The Korean body exfoliation tradition
Walk into a Korean jjimjilbang and the loudest sound in the bathhouse is the rhythmic rasping of the Italy towel against skin. The tradition, known colloquially as seshin, goes back decades and is based on one simple observation: warm water, time, and friction reveal skin you did not know you had. Modern Korean body scrubs translate that ritual into bottled format. You no longer need a heated soak, a professional scrubber, and an hour of free time. You need a peel shot, a scrub wash, and ten minutes.
The three types of Korean body exfoliation
1. Physical scrubs and scrub washes
Granular exfoliants in a wash base. Best for weekly use on shoulders, back, knees, elbows, and heels. The ILLIYOON Fresh Moisture Scrub Wash is our staple because it cleans and exfoliates without stripping the ceramide barrier.
2. Chemical peel shots
The new wave of Korean body exfoliation. A concentrated leave-on acid treatment applied like a body lotion. The medicube Kojic Acid Turmeric Body Peel Shot uses kojic acid and turmeric to tackle body hyperpigmentation; the medicube Hypochlorous Acid Body Peel Shot pairs antimicrobial hypochlorous with a gentle peel base for bacne and KP.
3. Masks and scalp scrubs
For targeted exfoliation. The I'm from Fig Scrub Mask brings fig enzyme exfoliation to the face as a 10-minute mask; the AROMATICA Rosemary Scalp Scrub brings the same philosophy to the scalp for people with flaking or product buildup.

How to build a Korean body exfoliation routine
Daily (optional): medicube Kojic Acid Turmeric Brightening Body Wash for gentle enzymatic brightening in the shower.
2 to 3 times per week: ILLIYOON Fresh Moisture Scrub Wash on shoulders, back, knees, elbows, and heels.
Once per week: Body peel shot on clean dry skin. Leave on for 5 minutes, rinse, then follow with a ceramide body lotion such as AESTURA Atobarrier 365.
Targeted: ILLIYOON Cica Acne Clear Peeling Scrub for chest, back, and shoulder breakouts.
Common mistakes
- Do not use an Italy towel on active acne, eczema, or recently waxed skin.
- Do not layer a body peel shot with physical exfoliation the same day.
- Do not exfoliate and skip moisturizer. The moisturizer step is the reason the exfoliation works long term.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I use a Korean body scrub?
Physical scrub washes 2 to 3 times per week. Chemical peel shots once per week. Always follow with a moisturizing body lotion.
Are Korean peel shots safe to leave on?
The medicube peel shots are designed as short-contact treatments: 5 to 10 minutes, rinsed off. They are not meant to be left on overnight.
Can I use a Korean body scrub on my face?
No. Face and body exfoliants have very different pH and abrasive profiles. Stick to face-specific exfoliants like I'm from Fig Scrub Mask for the face.
What works for strawberry legs and KP?
Alternating the medicube Kojic Acid Body Peel Shot once weekly with the ILLIYOON Fresh Moisture Scrub Wash 2 to 3 times weekly is our most effective recommendation.
